Remembrance Day

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice, on 11th November 1918, to signal the end of World War One.

At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare.

What is Remembrance Day?

Remembrance Day is on 11 November. It is a special day set aside to remember all those men and women who were killed during the two World Wars and other conflicts. At one time the day was known as Armistice Day and was renamed Remembrance Day after the Second World War.

Remembrance Sunday is held on the second Sunday in November, which is usually the Sunday nearest to the 11 November. Special services are held at war memorials and churches all over Britain.

Our very own Stamps!!....

At the Craft Retreat that was held a few weeks ago in October - we launched our own set of rubber stamps. A plate of stamp designs, that of course themed our logo of "Poppies". All of us here at AP, love poppies, so what better theme for a logo and for our first set of stamps.

Here are just two samples that have recently been made...

And here is a sample, which was one of the projects from the Retreat...

The stamps are available from us at Altered Paperie, they are A5 sized and come unmounted (deep etched red rubber) for £9.50 or cut and mounted for £11.50 there will be a standard postage fee of £1.00. As we are still constructing our webshop, if you wish to buy the stamp set email us here.

I think that if we were to have a word of the day, for us, it would have to be -Devoted- and you'll probably be asking why? Well, let me explain.............

As Altered Paperie's big craft weekend gets closer Gilly and I talk on the phone almost everyday. Going over details, talking logistics, projects, products etc etc. yet amongst all that we still get to mess around and laugh a lot, as it becomes harder and harder to contain our excitement!!.

Today when I hung up the phone after talking to Gilly, I thought about what it is we are doing. Putting on an event like this, amazing projects where attention has been paid to every single detail, it's no small feat. Expectations are high and we really want to make a great impression and have everyone leave on a high!........ We are loving every single minute. We are totally 110% devoted to the reason we are doing Altered Paperie Retreat in the first place. That reason is to inspire and share creativity and share lots of fun and laughter along the way. Every single person involved in this event shares our same philosophy. We are all working for the same purpose and then of course, there is the devotion that everyone has had in us, and for that, we thank you from our hearts!

It is simply amazing to see what can be accomplished when a group of devoted people pull together to create something. The result is astounding!

Something new and exciting!!!!!.....

Just thought we would let you all know that after last weekends workshop where we briefly introduced the PanPastels and had a little play!!!....based on the response and all the requests we've had, we are going ahead and holding an extra workshop (date yet to be confirmed) incorporating this fab new product into a journaling/canvas project!!.....so excited, can't wait for them all to come in :-D

Finally, it is time to draw the winner of our blog candy!!

But before we go ahead and do that, we must just say a great BIG THANK You to everyone who has participated and to everyone who has left us some lovely comments on here and also the emails with all the good luck wishes to our start up - it is all so very appreciated.

You will have noticed that unfortunately, we have been a little behind in posting updates of late, but that it simply because we have been inundated with prep-work for the workshops and teaching - the last two workshops were also a little further afield!! (Livingston nr Edinburgh & Bodmin in Cornwall) we'll post piccies soon.

Playing with Acetate!

Hi Everyone, hope you've all been enjoying this lovely sunny weather we've been having, although admittedly today was a little 'cooler'!!...Anyway, here are the two projects that we did at this morning's workshop.

Coloured with copics - soft edges or (distressing was done with paper soft colour from Viva and the poppy stamp is from Crafty Secrets. The acetate is covering the main front image - you can't quite see in the picture, but it gives it a photo quality front!

Our second project is an easel card with a difference in that we have made it 'see through'!!

The main stamp image is Tim Holtz - Stampers Anonymous, which has been stamped onto the acetate with archival black, embossed, and coloured with alcohol inks. The card edges have TH tissue tape all round and then distressed with black dabber - everyone added different images to their sizzix film strip - I went with Laurel and Hardy and Charlie Chaplin, favourites of mine from times gone by!!!...

Spring Mini & Happy Easter!

Just a quickie tonight, to show you, as promised, our finalised project for todays workshop - we were back in Malmesbury again today, the weather was glorious, we had a fantastic view across the fields out of the windows and I ate one cadbury's cream egg too many!!!!.....

To those coming to our workshop on the 30th - see you there!!! - sorry no sneak peaks (haven't taken any pics yet!!! lol)

Paper Rose Tutorial

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that we are talking with this lady here to come and teach at our workshop, we have been to a few of her workshops now and she makes 'awesome' projects. One of the things that she has done, and has now allowed us to link here on our blog, is the 'Paper Rose Tutorial' which there are alot of versions out there now, but She was the first to start doing these roses and definently the first tutorial we ever came across (well before Lord Tim!!) back on her blog in March 2009.

She has told us that she has been busy with work, shows, family and workshops and has not had time to keep her blog up-to-date, but still gets lots of requests for her tutorial, so she has let us use the link enabling anyone wanting the tuturial to be directed straight to a pdf version via the link HERE.

Paper Bag Mini

Hi Everyone - just wanted to quickly post the project that we made at our all day workshop in Malmesbury on Saturday 2nd April.

And yes, I did say paper bags....that is exactly what we used to make the main pockets of this mini! the design papers are from a GCD collection - Paris Nights - everyone made the flowers themselves, the gems on the front are Prima and we also used a variety of Tim Holtz, on the edge alteration dies.

For those attending the workshop on the 23-4-11, here is a sneak peak of the mini we will be doing........
